Woodland Caribou Hunting

100% running success rate for Newfoundland Woodland Caribou. We’ve never had a hunter go home without a Caribou.

The Woodland Caribou is the rarest and most majestic of the Caribou species. With large bodies, big white manes and huge, cinnamon coloured antlers with lots of mass and points, they make outstanding trophies. Newfoundland is currently the only place in the world where these magnificent animals can be hunted by non-residents.

Ironbound began as a Caribou hunting outfitter many years ago. Our staff has been hunting caribou and judging trophies for more than 30 years. We have remote camps right in the middle of the herds range, and exclusive hunting rights for non-residents.

We prefer to hunt when they begin the rut in October, although they can found around our camps from September – November. Once in the rut the caribou will form small herds of 12 -40 animals and these herds will usually contain several large trophy bulls. We spot the Caribou from a high ridge and glass them to determine trophy quality of the bulls, and then plan a stalk.

Woodland Caribou can be combined with Moose and both species can be hunted at the same camp. Typically Moose prefer to be close to stands of woods, at the bottom of hills, along the brooks, and on wooded hillsides. Caribou are found on the open country and on barren ridge tops and around the lakes.

Woodland Caribou licences are extremely limited and we fully expect to be oversubscribed so hunters are well advised to book early, thank you.
